B-2 "Sweet Tater Pie"

Tenía este bloque a medio hacer desde hacía semanas, no se por qué pero siempre me apetecía más empezar uno nuevo... pero al fin lo terminé ayer y aquí os lo muestro. Hice dos veces el mismo bloque y luego uno de ellos lo recorte y lo terminé aplicando por el revés. Alguna costura se ha movido un poco pero estoy muy satisfecha en general.


I had this block half-way for weeks, I don´t know whay but I always felt like starting a new one better... but I finally finished it yesterday and here I show it to you. I made two times the same block and then one of them I cut it and ended it with reverse-appliquè. Some seams have moved a bit but in general I am quite satisfied.

B-1 "Batchelor Buttons"

Uno facilito... Easy one...

A-9 "Cabin Fever"

Me encanta como ha quedado este bloquecito...

I love how this little block has come out...

D-6 "Challenge"

"Desafio"... es el nombre de este bloque.... supongo que tenian un dia gracioso, jeje... Resultó fácil y rápido de hacer, y el dibujo de la tela luce mucho. ¿Os gusta?

"Challenge"... is the name of this block... I suppose they had a funny day, hehe... It was easy and fast to do, and the motive of the fabric looks nice. Do you like it?

A-1 "Pinwheel Gone Awry"

¡Ay! Este me quedó fatal... ¡hasta se ven los hilos en alguna costura!. No estoy nada satisfecha, pero ahora no me apetece repetirlo asi que ahi queda... :)

Ouch! This one turned out terribly bad... you can even see the thread in some of the seams! I am not at all satisfied with it but I really do not feel like repeating it so, there it stays... :)

A-13 "Starlight-Starbright"

Este bloque me ha dado un poco más de trabajo, no estaba muy segura de si quedaría bien por lo irregular de las costuras con ángulos obstusos y agudos pero al final estoy muy orgullosa del resultado.

This block gave me a little more work, I was not quite sure that it would turn out good because of the irregular seams, with the obtuse and acute angles but at the end I am very proud of the result.

B-4 "Chris's Soccer Field"

Un bloque facilito... y agradable de hacer. ¡Me encanta como ha quedado esta tela!

An easy block to do... and nice to sew. I like it very much how this fabrics suits it!

B-8 "Water Lily"

Otro bloque mas... la verdad tengo varios empezados pero no los termino y la siguiente vez que mis amigas Maria y Elsa y yo nos ponemos a coser planificamos un par de ellos mas y yo, con esta temporada terrible que llevo no he conseguido acabarlos... Asi, ellas llevan unos 15 y yo apenas 5 y unos trocitos.... Pero bueno, ¡ahora me voy a poner las pilas!! ¡que me dejan atras!!

One more block... to tell the truth I have several on its way but I do not finish them, and the following time my friends Maria, Elsa and I meet for stitching, we plan a few more and I, with this terrible period I just had at work, did not manage to finish them... Therefore, they did something like 15 blocks, and me, just 5 and few pieces... But ok, now I am putting new batteries on!! Or they will leave me behind!!

Este bloque se llama "Water Lily", es precioso y estoy bastante satisfecha con el resultado, sobre todo con la eleccion de la tela, que creo que ¡ha quedado perfecta! ¿Que os parece?

This block is called "Water Lily", it is beautiful and I am quite satisfied with the result, specially with the choice of the fabric, I think it just suits perfectly! What do you think?

B-3 "Mirror Image"

Este fue algo dificil, es la primera vez que coso curvas, pero no me ha quedado tan mal, y como dice Jane Stickle... "Better finished than perfect"!

This one was a bit difficult, it is the first time I sew curves, but it did not turn out too bad, and as Jane Stickle says..."Better finished than perfect"!

C-9 "Jane´s Tears"

¡Un nuevo bloque! Tenia tantas ganas de hacer este bloque que lo he hecho del tirón esta tarde en lugar de echarme a dormir tras mi guardia de 24 horas... me apetecía mucho probar la aplicación al reves, y creo que no me ha quedado tan mal, ¿no?


A new block! I was so eager to do this block that I have finished it all at once this afternoon instead of sleeping after my 24 hours on duty... I really wanted to try the reverse appliqué technique, and I think that it did not turn out so bad, don´t you think so?

G-4 "Shutter Bug"

No he podido esperar a subiros la foto de mi segundo bloque... no está muy nítida porque la hice de noche y con el flash salen fatal pero... es que estoy tan orgullosa de este bloque con estas piezas tan pequeñitas!!!! Los proximos serán el B-13 y el C-9...

I could not wait to upload the picture of my second block... not very clear because I made it at night and pictures with flash look awful but... I was so proud of this block with so small pieces!!! C-13 y B-9 are on its way...

A-6 "Uncle Homer"

He hecho mi primer bloque!! El miercoles me llegó la tela de fondo y por fin ayer pude hacer el primer bloque de my Baby Jane. Empecé por uno sencillito claro... :) Aquí lo tenéis. A ver si puedo hacer alguno mas en estos dias, se avecina un mes muy ocupado pues tengo cursos del trabajo todas las tardes de octubre y no se si tendré mucho tiempo para coser, y aun tengo que acabar los regalitos de los intercambios!


I have done my first block!! On wednesday I received the background fabric and yesterday I could at last finish my first Baby Jane block. I started with an easy one... :) Here it is. Let´s see if I can do some more blocks in these days, a time of lots of work is coming since I have lots of courses from my job all afternoons in october and I am afraid I won´t have much time to sew, and I still have to finish the presents for my swaps!

Telas, telas, telas... (Fabrics, fabrics, fabrics...)

Al fin me han llegado las telas!!! Estoy tan contenta que me he pasado toda la tarde mirandolas y decidiendo cuales me valian para los bloques del Baby Jane. Evidentemente aun no tengo todas las que necesito porque la intencion es hacerlo parecido a los colores del original y quería usar una tela distinta para cada bloque y triangulo, pero tengo MUCHAS!!
Las primeras son las que pedí a Shabby Fabrics y las otras las de Fabric Shack, todas preciosas! No puedo esperar a empezar a coser!!! (pfff... aun estoy esperando a recibir la imprescindible tela del fondo)

Finally I got my fabrics!!! I am so happy that I have spent all afternoon looking at them and deciding which would suit the blocks of my Baby Jane. No need to say that I still do not have all the ones I need because my first intention is to do it similar to the original colours, and I also want to use a different fabrics for each block and triangle, but i have LOTS!!
The first ones are the Shabby Fabrics ones and the other the Fabric Shack ones, all so beautiful! I can´t wait to start sewing!!! (pffff... still waiting for the indispensable background fabric).

Jugando... (Playing around...)

He estado jugando un rato con el software the Dear Jane para ver como quedaban algunas pruebas de colores. Lo primero fue intentar un diseño del tipo "Trip around the world" que es lo más parecido a lo que la autora hizo en el original, y usando seis colores basicos me ha quedado asi. Tuve algo de problema con los triangulos de los bordes porque Jane parece no haber seguido ningun patron que yo consiga identificar y jugando con varias combinaciones esta es la que más me gustó al final.

I have been playing around a bit with the Dear Jane software to see how some colour combinations looked like. First I tried was a "Trip around the world" design, that is the most similar to what the author did in the original, and using six basic colours this is what I got. I had a bit of a problem with the triangles in the borders because it seems Jane has not followed any pattern I can identify, and playing with several variations, this is the one I liked most at the end.


Luego decidi probar solo con tres colores y este es el resultado: en verde, marrón y amarillo, y en tonos rosas-rojos! ¿Cual os gusta más?

Then I decided to try with just three colours and this is the result: in green, brown and yellow, and in pink-redish colours! Which one do you like the most?

Más telas en camino! (More fabrics on the way!)

Si, si... conseguí hacer mi pedido finalmente con las telas de Shabby Fabrics. Al parecer el problema era simplemente que su base de datos no reconocía nuestros caracteres especiales (lease "ñ" y probablemente acentos). A tener en cuenta a la hora de hacer más pedidos por internet al extranjero. Cambié A Coruña por A Coruna y todo se solucionó y pude pagar normalmente con la VISA. Estoy deseando que me lleguen las telas!!!

Yes, yes... I finally managed to send my order for the Shabby Fabrics fabrics. Apparently the problem was simple, their databse has problems to recognize special characters (that is, "ñ" and maybe also accents). To take into account when doing future internet orders to foreign countries. I changed A Coruña with A Coruna and everything was ok and was able to pay normally with my VISA. I am looking forwarfd to receiving my fabrics!!!

Pedido de telas (Fabrics order)

Ayer he pedido mis primeras telas por Internet. Tras un infructuoso intento de hacer un pedido a Shabby Fabrics (que tienen una telas preciosas, pero no se que problema tienen con el pago con VISA que segun su email de respuesta solucionarán en breve, y me sugieren que pague con paypal; me lo pensaré), me pasé por la web de Fabric Shack y pedi varias telas que recuerdan las del Dear Jane original y que seguro que me irán fenomenal. Asi, en cuanto tenga la tela de fondo (que la voy a encargar con mi profe de patchwork) podré empezar a hacer bloques. ¡Lo estoy deseando!

Yesterday I ordered my first fabrics on the internet. After an unfruitful attempt of placing an order to Shabby Fabrics (they have wonderful fabrics, but I do not know what problem they seem to have with the payment through VISA, that according to their reply over the e-mail they will solve soon, that they suggest me to pay with paypal; I will think about it), I came through the web of Fabric Shack and ordered several fabrics that resemble those of the original Dear Jane and that I am sure they will perfectly suit. This way, as soon as I have the background and sashing fabric (that I will order with my patchwork teacher) I will be able to start sewing the blocks. I am looking forward to it!

El inicio de un largo viaje... (The beginning of a long journey...)

Contagiada del entusiasmo de miles de "janiacs" de todo el mundo y tras haber recibido en casa el paquete con el esperado libro del "Dear Jane" he empezado este blog donde iré anotando los progresos que vaya haciendo en mi propio Baby Jane. Tras darle mil vueltas he decidido que lo haré en los mismos colores y tamaño que el original; no acababan de convencerme las otras posibilidades que ensayé con el software del proyecto. Ahora tengo que conseguir las telas y poco a poco ir empezando, seleccionando los bloques y las técnicas de cada uno. Este es el principio de un largo viaje... :)

Encouraged by the enthusiasm of thousands of "janiacs" all over the world and after recieving at home the package with the eagerly awaited book of the "Dear Jane" I have stared this blog where I will be writing about the progress in my own Baby Jane. After a lot of thinking I have decides I will do it in similar colours and size to the original; I was not convinced by the other posibilities that I tried with the project software. Now I must collect the fabrics and slowly select the blocks and techniques to do each of them. This is the beginning of a long journey... :)
